Trophy Club, Tex. – The ULM women’s golf team opened the first round of the ORU/SFA Spring Break Invite on Monday, finishing the day in a tie for seventh place.
-Shani White opened Monday’s action with a 76 which put her into a tie for ninth place after the first round. After two early bogies she bounced back on the 16th and 1st holes with a pair of birdies on the par fives. She struggled down the stretch with a pair of bogies and a double bogey on the way to her four-over 76.
-Michaela Osborne had a 77 score for a plus-five on Monday. Osborne had her lone birdie of the round come on the par three 12th hole, as she and Maddaloni were the two Warhawks to pick up a shot on the hole. She struggled coming in, with three bogies on her second nine including two of her last four holes to finish with her 77.
-Olivia Landberg had an opening round 80 but had issues getting anything going as she did not have any birdies and struggled on her second nine with a back nine score of 41.
-Scarlett Eaton had an opening round 81, where she was able to bounce back from a rough opening nine to close with a solid back nine. After a 44 on her first nine holes, she picked up two birdies on the way to a plus-one back nine to lead to her 81.
-Devanshi Naik struggled on Monday, posting an 82 in her opening round. She had difficulties getting anything going as her lone birdie on the day came on hole three but a double bogey on hole seven and a triple bogey on 17 hurt her round.
-Ashton Maddaloni, playing as an individual, posted an 82 on Monday but did have a highlight of birding the 12th hole before stepping up to the second hole (her 11th hole of the day) where she hit her second shot from 160 yards out and it had three hops and went into the hole for an eagle two on her scorecard.
Head Coach Joni Stephens
Thought on the Round: As a team we had a good round today and I was pleased with some of the things I saw. We were very close to having a really good team score. We gave up a few too many strokes due to some incorrect course management decisions and indecisiveness on club selection, but saw some improvement in our ball striking. Shani and Michaela both had solid rounds, saving par many times with some great up-and-down play (30 putts and 27 putts respectively). Scarlett came back after a rough 44 on her first nine to shoot 37 on the back nine. Overall, I am pleased with our progress today. Tomorrow's goal is to make smarter choices to get in a better position to score and to fully commit to our decisions. Each player is having a good nine; now we have to put two good nines together.
-The Warhawks will again be on the links on Tuesday morning with tee times slated for between 8:30-9:06 for the second round of the ORU/SFA Spring Break Invite before the final round on Wednesday.
