MONROE, La. – ULM women's golf head coach Joni Stephens has announced the addition of Johanna Nevalainen to the program, a transfer from the University of West Florida.
"I am excited to add Johanna Nevalainen to our 2017-2018 roster. She is an excellent student and has great composure on the course. With her consistent tournament scoring in the 70's, I expect her to make an immediate impact this fall,” said Stephens.
Nevalainen comes to ULM after playing the last two seasons at West Florida, where she averaged a score of 78.46 as a freshman, including her lowest round of 73 in Argonaut Invitational, and had a 79.27 score average as a sophomore. Named a Gulf South All-Conference performer in 2016, she also received All-Conference academic honors that season as well.
A native of Gothenburg, Sweden, Nevalainen finished in second place at the Skandia Tour Elite in 2015 after a playoff, carding rounds of 75, 76 and 78 in the event. She won the Varberg Junior Open in 2014 and was ranked the No. 26 overall junior golfer in Sweden in 2015, and was ranked No. 11 on the Skandia Tour Order of Merit.
Nevalainen played as an amateur in the 2016 LETAS at Boras Golf Club, making the cut with scores of 75 and 73, and was also a part of the winning team at the Swedish National Team Championship in 2016.
