MONROE, La.  -  The ULM softball team will begin play in the inaugural National Invitational Softball Championship (NISC) on Tuesday night against Southland Conference opponent Lamar in Beaumont, Texas in the Lamar Regional of the NISC.


Last time out: The Warhawks will enter the NISC after having been eliminated from the Sun Belt Conference Championship with losses to Georgia State and South Alabama.

Lamar: The Cardinals hold an even 28-28 record and were eliminated from the Southland Conference tournament with losses to Nicholls State and Central Arkansas. The Warhawks have faced Lamar a total of 24 times, with ULM holding a 17-7 advantage all-time. The last time that the teams faced each other was during the 2014 season.

About the NISC: The tournament field is made up of 48 teams with 32 automatic qualifiers (next team from each conference not selected through NCAA criteria) and 16 at-large qualifiers (selections based on RPI/win-loss record of .500 or better/record vs. top 50 RPI). The Warhawks will first play in the Region 4 group with three other teams (Lamar, UT Arlington and Abilene Christian) to try to qualify for the tournament final. Teams will be eliminated in a two round double elimination format.
