Results through Round 1: ULM 7th

Location: Laredo Country Club / Laredo, Texas

Laredo, Texas – The ULM men’s golf team battled the elements on Friday as they were unable to fully complete the opening round of the Boarder Olympics due to weather. Two of the five Warhawk players still have holes to finish when play resumes on Saturday morning.

-Due to the weather, all teams will finish round one on Saturday morning before beginning the second and final round of the event later in the day. The Warhawks sit at five-under par, six shots behind the leaders. Five of the six teams ahead of ULM finished their first rounds on Friday.

-Guillaume Fanonnel led the Warhawks on Friday with a four-under par round of 68 and he sits in fifth place overall in the tournament. Fanonnel matches his career low, after he also shot 68 in the second round of the Atchafalaya Intercollegiate a few weeks ago. He opened with four birdies on his opening 11 holes, including three in four holes on 13,15 and 16. After a bogey on the 18th hole, Fanonnel picked up one more birdie on the 1st hole to get in with 68.

-Brady Price posted a one under 71 for his opening round of play on Friday. Price got it all the way to three-under on his round with four early birdies on holes nine,15 and one and four before struggling down the stretch with two bogies on holes five and seven to finish with a one -par 71.

-Joao Girao was the final Warhawk to finish all 18 holes today as he posted a one-over par score of 73. After an early double bogey on the 11th hole he was able to bounce back nicely with two birdies and a lone bogey to finish off his 73 score on Friday.

-Hogan Arey currently sits at even par with one hole to go on his opening round as he had and up and down round struggling to keep any momentum. After an early bogey on his card, he was able to come back and pick up three birdies on the back nine, however he coupled that with a pair of bogies and shot one-under on the back. He currently has the fourth hole to play to finish round one.

-Andoni Etchenique sits at plus-one for his opening round as he has three holes remaining. Etchenique picked up a birdie on the 15th hole on Friday before back-to-back bogies on his final two holes prior to the weather pushed him to his current one-over score.

Head Coach Tim Baldwin

Thought on the Round: We played well today but are still not getting the most out of our rounds. We have to go deeper under par tomorrow to make a run. Guillaume Fanonnel played great today with his four-under effort

-The Warhawks will be on the course early tomorrow to wrap up the opening round at 7:30 am before the second and final round begins following the conclusion of round one.
