Leading Off

-ULM is coming off of a 1-2 weekend at Arkansas State to open Sun Belt Conference play…the Warhawks won the series opener by a 5-3 score, the first time ULM has opened the SBC schedule with a victory six years to the day that ULM last opened conference play with a win (March 18, 2011 at UL Lafayette).

-The Warhawks have now been postponed and forced to play a doubleheader in each of the last two weekends…ULM closed the UAB series with a Sunday doubleheader on March 12 and waited to begin Sun Belt play with a twinbill on Saturday afternoon against Arkansas State.

-ULM and Grambling have met in 62 contests all-time prior to Tuesday night’s game, with ULM leading the series 48-14 with the first meeting coming back in the 1971 season (a 3-0 ULM victory). This will be the teams’ first meeting since the 2014 campaign…ULM is 8-2 in the last 10 meetings in the series.

-The Warhawks have been involved with walkoff victories in three of the team’s five weekend series, including in two Friday night games, this season…ULM saw UAB walk off with two victories on Sunday afternoon, and previously had seen Alabama come from behind and walkoff with a 4-3 victory to open the series on March 3, while ULM had an extra-inning walkoff win over Southern Illinois on February 24 on Blake Buckman’s RBI single up the middle in the 11th inning…the Southern Illinois walkoff was the team’s first walkoff victory since Danny Springer pushed ULM past UT Arlington with a sacrifice fly back on April 4, 2015…The Warhawks have lost seven of their last eight extra-inning games dating back to last season.

-Newcomer Cade Harper leads the Warhawks with a team-high .333 batting average, while he and Johnny DeLaCruz  lead the team with five doubles as ULM has 49 total extra-base hits as a team to date (37 doubles, 11 home runs, one triple)…On the mound, Anthony Herrera leads ULM with a 1.50 ERA in seven appearances out of the bullpen…starter Chase Beal leads the staff with 24 strikeouts, as seven different pitchers each have at least 10 strikeouts (Tyler Schwaner/Chase Cater – 13 each, Kyle Backofen/Josh Leone – 16 each, Anthony Herrera – 19, Keegan Curtis – 20, Chase Beal – 24).
