MONROE, La. – The ULM baseball team is set to make the short trip down I-20 on Tuesday night to take on Grambling in the second game of the teams’ home and home season series. ULM enters the game after a 1-2 Sun Belt Conference weekend at Texas State, while Grambling swept Southern at home in SWAC action over the weekend.

Leading Off

-The Warhawks won the first meeting of the season between the two teams back on March 21 in Monroe by a 7-1 score…in that win, Cade Stone and Cade Harper each had three-hit games, while Nate Reynolds and Turner Francis both had two hits.

-ULM is coming off of a 1-2 weekend at Texas State to Sun Belt Conference play, winning the series opener on Thursday night in comeback fashion by a 6-5 score after posting five runs in the top of the ninth inning.

-The Warhawk series-opening victory at Texas State was the third time this season that ULM has started a series with a victory, joining series-opening wins at home against Southern Illinois and at Arkansas State from earlier this season.

-Senior Anthony Herrera drove in the go-ahead runs in Thursday’s win and then closed the game out in the bottom of the ninth for his fifth save of the season and his 21st career save overall, surpassing Mark Wisniewski (1982-1985) as the program’s new all-time saves leader…Herrera’s 10 saves last season as a junior tied the ULM program record for most saves in a season, joining Michael Durham (2000) atop the record book.

-ULM and Grambling have met in 63 contests all-time prior to Tuesday night’s game, with ULM leading the series 49-14 with the first meeting coming back in the 1971 season (a 3-0 ULM victory). ULM is 8-2 in the last 10 meetings in the series.

-Cade Harper leads the Warhawks with a team-high .319 batting average amongst players with at least 50 at bats this season, while Chad Bell and Johnny DeLaCruz are tied for the team lead team with eight doubles each as ULM has 82 total extra-base hits as a team to date (57 doubles, 18 home runs, seven triples)…On the mound, Anthony Herrera leads ULM with a 1.61 ERA in 14 appearances out of the bullpen…starter Chase Beal leads the staff with 39 strikeouts, as seven different pitchers each have at least 15 strikeouts (Tyler Schwaner – 19, Kyle Backofen – 21, Chase Cater and Keegan Curtis – 26 each, Josh Leone – 31, Anthony Herrera – 32, Chase Beal – 39).

-Following Tuesday’s game, ULM welcomes UT-Arlington to town as part of a Sun Belt Conference three-game weekend series. Friday’s series opener is slated for a 6:00 p.m. first pitch before day games on Saturday (2:00 p.m.) and Sunday (1:00 p.m.) afternoons.
