Leading Off

-All three meetings between ULM and UT Arlington have been 2-1 series since UTA joined the Sun Belt to start the 2013-14 year. UTA took two games in Arlington, Texas on April 4-5, 2014, while ULM won two of three in Monroe April 3-4, 2015 and again last year by taking two games in Arlington on April 8-10, 2016.

-Overall, UT Arlington leads the all-time series 44-29, with the first series meeting coming back in March 1985 won two out of three games in Southland Conference action in Monroe.

-After starting the season 0-for-6 with limited action over the first month of the season, senior outfielder Tyler Cox currently carries a 10-game hitting streak into the weekend against UTA. Cox has started the last eight games of the streak, dating back to April 4 against Northwestern where he had a home run, and began the streak with a hit in a start against Little Rock on March 26. He followed that up with a pinch hit knock at Georgia Southern on April 2 and has been in the starting lineup for eight of ULM’s last nine games (did not play on Thurs., April 13 – game one of Texas State series).

-ULM features five players with 10 or more multi-hit games this season, led by junior Turner Francis’ 16 games with two or more base knocks.

-The Warhawks lead the Sun Belt Conference with 24 runners caught stealing, with senior Spencer Hemphill leads the SBC with 19 runners thrown out individually. Hemphill has also picked off three runners from behind the plate this season, one back of the league lead (three players with four pickoffs – all pitchers).

-The Warhawk series-opening victory at Texas State was the third time this season that ULM has started a series with a victory, joining series-opening wins at home against Southern Illinois and at Arkansas State from earlier this season.

-Senior Anthony Herrera drove in the go-ahead runs on April 13 at Texas State and then closed the game out in the bottom of the ninth for his fifth save of the season and his 21st career save overall, surpassing Mark Wisniewski (1982-1985) as the program’s new all-time saves leader…Herrera’s 10 saves last season as a junior tied the ULM program record for most saves in a season, joining Michael Durham (2000) atop the record book.

-Cade Harper leads the Warhawks with a team-high .313 batting average amongst players with at least 50 at bats this season, while Chad Bell leads team with nine doubles as ULM has 86 total extra-base hits as a team to date (60 doubles, 19 home runs, seven triples)…On the mound, Anthony Herrera leads ULM with a 1.50 ERA in 15 appearances out of the bullpen with six saves…starter Chase Beal leads the staff with 39 strikeouts, as seven different pitchers each have at least 20 strikeouts (Tyler Schwaner – 20, Kyle Backofen, Chase Cater and Keegan Curtis – 26 each, Josh Leone – 31, Anthony Herrera – 35, Chase Beal – 39).

-The series with UT Arlington is slated for a 6:00 p.m. first pitch on Friday night before a 2:00 p.m. start on Saturday night. Sunday’s finale will be a 1:00 p.m. first pitch. ULM then travels to Georgia State in SBC action next weekend.
