MONROE, La. – The ULM baseball team posted two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning on Saturday afternoon, but fell 6-3 to the visiting Ragin' Cajuns on Senior Day as the Warhawks closed the careers of nine seniors prior to the season finale.

THE BASICS

Score: Ragin' Cajuns 6, ULM 3

             Ragin' Cajuns (35-20-1, 19-10-1 SBC)

TURNING POINT

-The Cajuns broke open a scoreless game with two runs in the top of the third inning and then added two more runs in the fourth to take control of the afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-The Cajuns took the lead with a solo home run by Handsome Monica to open the top of the third inning before adding a second run later in the frame when Joe Robbins walked and eventually scored on a wild pitch. The visitors posted two more runs in the top of the fourth, using Zach LaFleur's RBI double and an RBI groundout from Brenn Conrad to take the four-run advantage. Logan Stoelke's RBI single in the fifth pushed the Cajuns to 5-0.

-ULM got on the board in the bottom of the seventh when Anthony Herrera opened the inning with a walk and scored on Chad Bell's RBI single through the right side before leaving two runners on to end the frame.

-The Cajuns added a run in the top of the eighth on a double steal, but the Warhawks responded with two runs in the bottom of the eighth, via Cade Stone's RBI double and Herrera's run-scoring groundout, to pull to within three heading to the ninth.

-In the ninth, ULM put a pair of runners on when Brady McGehee and Brian Barefoot both singled, but a lineout from Blake Buckman ended the afternoon and the season.

-ULM finished with six hits from six different players, while Stone, Herrera and Bell tallied the RBI. Warhawk starter Chase Beal was saddled with the loss, allowing four runs on three hits and five walks in 3 1/3 innings. Six relievers – including five seniors – wrapped up the game out of the bullpen. Matt Reeves, Payton Coddou and Chase Cater each tossed an inning in their final ULM appearances, while Tyler Schwaner and Herrera split the pitching duties in the ninth in their final visits to the mound.

-The Cajuns were led by three two-hit games, from LaFleur, Stoelke and Alex Pinero, while Hogan Harris earned the win after 6 2/3 innings of work in his start.

-Prior to Saturday's finale, the Warhawks will honor their senior class: Chase Cater, Payton Coddou, Tyler Cox, Anthony Herrera, Josh Leone, Matt Reeves, Nate Reynolds, Tyler Schwaner and Cade Stone.
