MONROE, La. - ULM baseball signee Joey Rapp was selected with the first pick in the 28^th round of the 2010 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft by the Washington Nationals on Tuesday evening. Rapp signed with the Warhawks in November and has played the last two seasons at junior college power Chipola College.

Rapp, who has until Aug. 16 to sign with the Nationals, batted .263 with 10 doubles, a triple, 10 home runs and 28 RBIs this past season for the Indians. As a freshman, he batted at a .356 clip with eight doubles, 10 home runs and 34 RBIs in 35 starts. The 6-foot-3 right fielder was selected in the 41^st round of the 2009 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

"Joey has the potential to be one of the best players in our conference," ULM head coach Jeff Schexnaider said when Rapp signed last fall. "He has played for one of the top junior college programs in the country and shown that he can really produce offensively.  Joey will have an impact on the middle of our lineup in a big way as soon as he steps on campus."

Rapp helped lead Sarasota High School to the 2007 6A Florida State Championship and was named to the Florida Athletic Coaches Association All-Star Game in the summer following his senior year.
