MONROE, La. – The ULM men's basketball team knows its road to a Sun Belt Championship, a road that begins Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. against Arkansas State in New Orleans in the first round of the Sun Belt Conference Championship held at the University of New Orleans.  

The Warhawks, who finished the regular season 8-23 in overall and 2-16 in league play, are the No. 12 seed in the tournament.  

This will be the first time in each school’s respective history that they will meet in the Sun Belt Conference Championship. Arkansas State holds a 37-24 all-time record against the Warhawks, including sweeping the season series with a 76-45 win in Jonesboro on January 2 and a 73-63 win in Monroe on January 28. 

ULM finished the regular season with a pair of players averaging double-figures in scoring, led by Travis Munnings with a 13.1 points per game average and Sam McDaniel's 11.8 points per game average. Munnings leads the team with 8.0 rebounds per game while senior Nick Coppola has a team-high 137 assists.  

UTA clinched the top seed with a dominant 14-4 mark in the league as the Mavericks clinched their first SBC regular season championship. With their win on Saturday, Georgia State clinched the number two seed with a 12-6 mark. A three-way tie existed for third place between Georgia Southern, Texas State and Arkansas State and through tiebreakers Georgia Southern becomes the number three seed, Texas State is the four seed and the Red Wolves are the number five seed. There was another three-way tie for sixth in the standings between Coastal Carolina, Troy and the Ragin' Cajuns. Troy earned the sixth seed while the Ragin' Cajuns earned the seventh seed and Coastal Carolina will be the number eight seed and face ninth seeded South Alabama. Little Rock is the 10 seed while App State is the 11 seed.

The Championship begins Wednesday with a full slate of four games. Coastal Carolina takes on South Alabama at 11:30 a.m. before the Warhawks take the court against Arkansas State at 2:00 p.m. The Ragin' Cajuns will battle Little Rock at 5:00 p.m. in the evening session on Wednesday before Troy battles Appalachian State to close out Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

On Friday, UTA will face the winner of Coastal Carolina-South Alabama at 11:30 a.m. before the ULM-Arkansas State winner battles Texas State at 2:00 p.m. Georgia State will take on the winner of the Ragin Cajuns-Little Rock at 5:00 p.m. before Georgia Southern takes the court in the final game on Friday against the winner of Troy-Appalachian State. The winners of those four Friday games will meet Saturday afternoon in two semifinal matchups at 11:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. looking for a trip to the league title game, which will be at 1:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
