New Orleans, La. – The ULM men’s basketball team battled throughout Wednesday afternoon and took fifth seeded Arkansas State to overtime before defeating the Red Wolves 73-70 to advance to the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Conference Championship on Friday to face Texas State.

THE TURNING POINT                                                     

-After going into halftime down 37-28 to the Red Wolves, the Warhawks used a 53 percent shooting percentage in the final 25 minutes to hold onto a three-point victory.


-For the sixth time this season, ULM had five players in double figures, led by senior Nick Coppola's 15 points. Coppola added four assists and hit 5-of-7 free throws down the stretch to win the game on Wednesday.

-Freshman center Sam Alabakis had a career night in his first tournament game, scoring a season-high 14 points while pulling down seven rebounds. He made a season-high six field goals on eight attempts while also having two assists and two steals.

-Marvin Jean-Pierre added 12 points while Travis Munnings and Marcus Washington added 11 apiece as all five starters had double-digit points in the win.

-It was a tight game throughout on Wednesday, however the Warhawks converted their free throws down the stretch to make the difference in the game as they hit 12-of-15 at the charity stripe compared to Arkansas State hitting just 10-of-22.

-The Red Wolves had four players in double figures led by Donte Thomas who had 22 points. Tamas Bruce had a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Deven Simms added 15 points while Devin Carter had 10 points.

-The Warhawks with the win are now 5-9 all-time in the SBC tournament and now move onto Friday to face No. 4 seed Texas State in the quarterfinals.
