MONROE, La. – The ULM women’s basketball season will continue into the Sun Belt Conference Championship when the Warhawks open postseason play on March 7 at 2:00 p.m. as the No. 12 seed. ULM will take on No. 5 seed Ragin' Cajuns in the opening round.
Regular Season Recap: The Warhawks finished the regular season with a 6-22 record overall and 3-15 record in Sun Belt play. ULM has had the most success inside Fant-Ewing Coliseum where they won five of the teams six wins and the lone road victory coming at Houston Baptist. ULM closed the regular season on a high note with a 61-59 win on Saturday over Texas State, who enters the tournament as the fourth seed.
Tournament History: The Warhawks have played in the Sun Belt Conference tournament eight out of the last 10 years, playing in a total of 11 games in the tournament with three victories. This is the Warhawks first trip back to the Sun Belt Conference Championship since 2013 when they lost to Arkansas State.
Ragin Cajuns: The Ragin' Cajuns finished the season with an overall record of 17-10 and a Sun Belt record of 11-7 and finished the regular season with a 76-79 loss to UTA on Saturday. Since joining the Sun Belt Conference in 1991, the team has played in 31 games in the conference tournament with a record of 7-24.
What's next: With a win against the Ragin' Cajuns on Tuesday, the Warhawks will move on to the second round of play against fourth seeded Texas State, who recieved a bye past the first round of play.
About the Championship: All 12 teams in the SBC gain a bid to the Sun Belt Championship. The tournament takes place at Lake Front Arena from March 7-12 in New Orleans with the first four seeds receiving a bye. The semifinal round is set to be played Saturday and the Championship game is scheduled for Sunday. Tickets can be purchased through the ULM ticket office or ulmwarhawks.com. The teams split the season series so the seeding was based on their winning percentage against Little Rock, the next highest seed. The Ragin' Cajuns were swept by Little Rock while Texas State was the lone team to defeat the Trojans; therefore, Texas State earned the No. 4 seed and final bye.
** Georgia State and Coastal Carolina finished with identical 8-10 league records. The teams split the season series so the seeding was based on their winning percentage against Little Rock, the next highest seed. Both teams dropped games to Little Rock this season so we move onto No. 2 UTA. Georgia State defeated UTA in the teams’ only matchup while Coastal Carolina dropped both games against UTA, therefore Georgia State earned the No. 7 seed.
