GREELEY, Colo. – Senior guard Dynile Forbes scored a season-high 25 points, but the ULM men’s basketball team fell, 95-84, on Wednesday night (Dec. 16) at Northern Colorado. Junior forward Lawrence Gilbert added 16 points and senior guard Jarvis Hill finished with 14 points in the contest.
Northern Colorado used a 14-point swing over the final seven minutes of the first half to take control of the contest as the Warhawks went the final six minutes of the opening stanza without a field goal.
ULM trailed by five early before a quick 7-0 burst gave the Warhawks the lead, 13-11. Senior guard Tony Hooper started the spurt with a trifecta, Gilbert then tied the contest with a jam before ULM took the lead on a pair of free throws by Forbes.
Northern Colorado regained the lead, 23-19, before the Warhawks again scored seven-straight to take a 26-23 advantage with 7:53 to play in the first half. Freshman center Rory Burt capped the run for ULM with a dunk.
The two teams traded the next six points before the Bears finished the half on a 21-7 run to take an 11-point lead, 47-36, into the intermission.
Gilbert led the way for ULM with nine points in the first half, Forbes chipped in eight in the opening 20 minutes for the Warhawks. Will Figures led Northern Colorado with nine points before the intermission. The Bears shot 57.1 percent (8-of-14) from beyond the three-point line in the first half.
Northern Colorado continued to its run as the second half began, increasing its advantage to 16, 60-44, its largest lead to that point, five minutes into the second half.
A pair of free throws by Forbes pulled ULM to within 11, 67-56, with just over 11 minutes to play, but Northern Colorado responded with an 11-2 run to take a 20-point advantage, 78-58, with 8:31 left in the contest.
The Warhawks continued to fight until the final buzzer, scoring the final eight points of the contest courtesy of a triple from Hill and five points from Forbes, cutting the final margin to 11 points.
Taylor Montgomery led the Bears with 16 points; Devon Beitzel had 15 as Northern Colorado had five players reach double figures.
ULM shot 62.5 percent (15-of-24) from the floor in the second half of the contest and 53.1 percent (26-of-49) overall. Northern Colorado shot 51.7 percent (30-of-58) in the game.
ULM will conclude its four-game road trip on Saturday (Dec. 16) as it returns to Sun Belt play at Denver. Game time against the Pioneers is scheduled for 5 p.m. CT.
