MONROE, La. - ULM senior guard Jesse Carrier was named to CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic First Team All-District VI on Thursday morning, as it was announced by the Academic All-America Committee.
Carrier, who earned her bachelor's degree in kinesiology with a 3.86 grade point average, will now be eligible for Academic All-America consideration. Nominations and voting for the All-America programs are conducted by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America.
The Sulphur, La., native was awarded her degree during special commencement ceremony this past Dec., and became the second Warhawk women's basketball player in as many years to earn a bachelor's degree in three-and-a-half years.
"I am proud to coach a special student-athlete like Jesse," head coach Mona Martin said. "She represents the term student-athlete in every aspect. This academic honor is a tribute to her work ethic off the basketball court."
This season, the 5-10 guard leads the Warhawks in scoring with an 11.4 points per game average. She has also made 43 3-point attempts at a 35.5 percent rate. Carrier is averaging 1.9 long balls per game, which ranks 176th in nation and fifth in the Sun Belt Conference. She is also ranked ninth in the conference in 3-point field goal percentage.
The sharpshooter has drained 174 career 3-pointers and is four long balls shy of setting the all-time 3-point makes mark in ULM women's basketball history. While she can shoot it from long range, Carrier also holds the top spot in program history for free throw percentage at 92.1 percent.
The ULM women hit the road for a two-game four-day road trip that begins with a rare Monday contest against Arkansas State at 7 p.m. The Warhawks will then travel to Little Rock for a 7 p.m. showdown against West Division leader UALR.
