BATON ROUGE, La.-ULM junior
right-hander James Jones has been named Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week and Louisiana
Pitcher of the Week following a dominating performance against Mississippi
Valley State this past Saturday, the conference office and the Louisiana Sports
Writers Association announced Tuesday afternoon.
Jones, a native of Barlow,
Ky., threw ULM's first complete-game shutout since 2004 and faced just one
batter over the minimum. He struck out six batters, allowed just two hits and
walked one to pick up his first career victory as a Warhawk.
The transfer from John A.
Logan College set the Delta Devils down in order in the first eight innings of
the game. A one-out double in the ninth inning spoiled his bid of 27-up and
27-down.
Jones is the second ULM
pitcher to sweep the Sun Belt and Louisiana weekly honors in the three weeks they
have been handed out this season. Closer Wil Browning took home the awards
following the opening week of the season after he was perfect in a relief
appearance at No. 17 Ole Miss.
The Warhawks take on No. 1 LSU
at Alex Box Stadium Tuesday night before hosting Memphis at Warhawk Field on
Wednesday night. First pitch for both games is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
