CONWAY, Ark. – The ULM women’s tennis team earned its sixth victory on the season on Tuesday (March 9), defeating Central Arkansas, 6-1. The Warhawks took the doubles point and five-of-six singles matches against the Sugar Bears in a dual meet held indoors at Hendrix College.
In the doubles, ULM (6-1) earned convincing victories at number one and three to take a 1-0 lead into singles action. Junior Claire Clark and sophomore Monica Winkel claimed victory at first singles with an 8-2 win over Petra Keilova and Kazumi Otani. At third singles, juniors Ana Burjaili and Vivian Polak earned a shutout win, 8-0, over Jordan Short and Alex Rios. Central Arkansas’ lone doubles win came at number two, where Allison Hartman and Lindsey Short defeated sophomore Jourdan Smith and senior Lena Satge, 8-7.
Clark opened singles action with a “double bagel,” 6-0, 6-0, victory over Lisa Mainz at second singles. Winkel and Polak each won 6-1, 6-0 victories in their singles matches. Winkel defeated Hartman, 6-1, 6-0, at fourth singles while Polak earned her 6-1, 6-0 victory over Short at fifth singles. ULM’s fourth singles win came at number six as Burjaili downed Rios, 6-2, 6-3.
At number three singles, freshman Sidney Bruscato won a close match over Otani, 6-4, 7-6. Central Arkansas prevented the dual match sweep but the Warhawks at number one singles as Keilova knocked off Satge, 6-4, 6-2.
ULM will be back on the courts tomorrow (March 10), as the Warhawks remain in the State of Arkansas to take on UALR. The match with the Trojans is scheduled to begin 11:30 a.m.
