NATCHITOCHES, La. - The ULM softball team combined for 16 runs on the final day of the NSU Lady Demon Classic Sunday, finishing the tournament with a 3-1 record including three consecutive victories.

The Warhawks took down Northwestern State 8-3 before matching its eight-run performance with an 8-2 defeat of Southern. ULM improves to 11-7 overall to close out tournament play this season.

ULM 8, Northwestern State 3
Haley McCall went 2-for-3 with one run and two RBIs and Karli Wainwright was 2-for-4 with one run. Roxy Cassel plated a game-best two runs while Miyuki Navarrete provided two RBIs.

Haylie Wilson threw her third complete game of the season to improve to 5-1, fanning two batters while allowing eight hits and only one walk.

With the score deadlocked after three innings, the Warhawks added a pair of runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take a 4-2 lead. A sacrifice bunt by Navarrete plated Miller on a successful squeeze play, followed by Cassel who scored from second on McCall's single to center field.

ULM piled on the runs in the final inning beginning with back-to-back RBI singles by Cacioppo and Salanoa. A ground out by Boening moved Salanoa and Cassel, who got on with a single, into scoring position when an error by the Demons allowed both to go home.

Northwestern State (7-13) scored all three of its runs off home runs. Tara McKenney singled to lead off the game followed by a Cassandra Barefield bomb to clear the bases. Brianna Rodriguez added a solo homer in the seventh inning.

The Warhawks answered the Demons' two runs in the third inning, McCall walking and stealing second before a Wainwright single put runners on the corners. Navarrete laid down another sacrifice bunt to plate McCall and back-to-back wild pitches sent Wainright home to even the scoreboard.

Cali Burke went 2-for-2 and McKenney had a 2-for-4 showing in the only multi-hit performances for the Demons. Barefield collected two RBIs and Rodriguez added another. Kelee Grimes was credited the loss despite a solid 5.1 innings in which she allowed four runs on just two hits with 11 strikeouts.

ULM is slated to face Southern for its final game of the NSU Lady Demon Classic at 12:30 p.m.

ULM 8, Southern 2
Navarrete was on fire in ULM's second game of the day, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBIs, a double and home run. Cacioppo went 2-for-4 to score two runs and Wainwright also crossed home plate twice.

Stephanie Routzon (3-4) picked up her third win of the season, tossing 5.0 innings and allowed four hits and two earned runs. Jessica Chastka threw the final 2.0 innings and gave up nothing while striking out three.

The Warhawks started hot as Wainwright led off with her first triple of the season, Navarrete following with an RBI single and stole second. Cacioppo and Salanoa each hit singles to plate two runners from second base, and Salanoa stole third before scoring on a ground out to take an early 4-0 lead.

The Warhawks continued the trend of only giving up runs on out-of-the-park balls on Sunday, as Southern's (3-10) two runs of the game came off a two-run homer by Kiah Williams in the bottom of the inning.

Pastor pushed another run across home plate in the third inning when she singled to score Cacioppo. ULM added two more runs an inning later, Navarrete nailing a double to send home Wainright and reached third on the throw before scoring on a passed ball.

Navarrete extended ULM's lead to 8-2 in the sixth inning when she hit her first home run of the season, a shot over the left field wall.

Four Jaguars managed a hit on the day, Williams going 1-for-2 with one run and two RBIs. Kendyl Stevenson went the distance in the circle, giving up 12 hits and six earned runs with three strikeouts.

ULM returns home after three weeks on the road for the first game in a home-and-home series with Stephen F. Austin Wednesday at 5 p.m.
